Summer Break is over and we are back in school. For many students, returning to school after a long break can be difficult. Being completely honest, it can be difficult for teachers too. The loss of the freedom of Summer and being back on a schedule demands a period of adjustment for students and teachers alike. For those of us that work in the school system, it's a little like being a "forever student." The plans and activities of Summer and the memories made take us back to our youth, when life seemed simpler and the trips to the beach and rivers, camping trips, vacations and family time all added up to epic summers. Time diminishes the "not so good times" and we are left with a mythical "perfect summer" etched into our minds. Oh, to be a kid again. Having said this, I admit that the world is a very different place for the students of today. Life seems less friendly, not the carefree way it felt in the 1970's & 1980's, but maybe that is just the seasoning of age which makes the past more perfect than it really was.
Every year it takes me about two weeks back to full time work to actually settle in and adjust to the schedule of work. On the flip side, it takes me the same two weeks to adjust to being off of full-time work in the Summer. A very Yin Yang situation. Ready or not…here we go. Let’s make the 2024-2025 school year EPIC!
